Okay, prepare for lots of pictures. :-)
I watched "The Young Victoria" last week (while frantically trying to finish my bridesmaid's dress.. more on that another time), and liked it very much. After being very disappointed in a new-release costume drama a few weeks ago, (Bright Star... I didn't like it at all), I was pleasantly surprised to like this one more than I expected to.
I wasn't sure I would like it because I am very devoted to the 2001 BBC version of "Victoria and Albert" with Victoria Hamilton and Jonathan Firth. But this new movie focused on just a few years of Victoria's life, and did a good job. It is only 1 hour and 35 minutes, and I wish it was longer, because they could have done more justice to parts of it.
I loved how Victoria realized she needs Albert, and that she isn't doing so well being all self-dependent. There was one especially good scene after they are married when she is trying to push him around, using her authority as the queen, and Albert will have none of it.
I loved Albert.

I like this neckline. Most of her dresses were quite decent, which isn't always the case in costume dramas.

I wish they used some of the screen time taken up with kissing for more plot development. :P There weren't any skip scenes, but some kind of awkward ones.

Purple dress with flowers for decoration--beautiful!
I guess they were being historically accurate with her hair. I can see no other reason for them making it so ugly some of the time. Middle part + hair hanging over ears + weird loopy things + freaky knot on top of head = disturbing. However, there were some lovely hairstyles.
I would definitely wear this yellow dress.
But NOT this crown. Gack.
Anyway, I definitely recommend it! If you've seen it, what did you think?
